Old bakelite cameo earrings Old bakelite cameo earrings Lovely old cameo earrings, 7/8" long. The silhouettes are some type of ealy plastic or celluloid, we think the amber backgrounds are bakelite, but we've been afraid to hot-water test them for fear of loosening the glue. These seem to have been pierced earrings originally (very popular till the 40s, when pierced ears went out of style!), they've been adapted with screw-back settings years ago, and the glue is discoloring.
