Wilmot, John, Earl of Rochester
SODOM, or The Quintessence of Debauchery

: North Hollywood: Brandon House 984, 1966, . . , , Paperback. Near Very Good. 1st Brandon House edition. A play written around 1671, attributed to John Wilmot, the 2nd Earl of Rochester, and offering us such charmingly named characters as Cuntigratia, Prickett, Fuckadilla, Clytoris, Cunticula, and so on (hmmmm--I think I'll name my first-born Fuckadilla--sorta has a ring to it). A scarce edition of a classic in the field of erotic literature. Albert Ellis contributes a seven-page Preface. In general, those who admire the Earl of Rochester's work claim that this piece can not possibly be his. In the Introduction to his 1948 book, "Rochester, Selected Lyrics and Satires," Ronald Duncan claims unequivocably that he has "laboured through this obscene doggerel and there cannot be the slightest doubt that Rochester is not the author. It was impossible for him to write three lines without spilling his wit or displaying his competence as a literary craftsman." 123 pages. Edgewear, reading crease to left side of front cover, 1/4" separation to bottom right spine edge, impressions, moderate general wear, internally clean and fairly tight.; . , , , .
