Johnson, Dr. (Samuel), Illustrated by John Romney
RASSELAS, A Tale

: London: Suttaby, Evans & Fox, 1823, . . , , Hard Cover. Poor/No Jacket. 24mo - over 5" - 5?" tall. Samuel Johnson's lone work of longish fiction, originally published in 1759. With his sister, her servant, and his mentor, an Abyssinian prince departs his birthplace to search Egypt for the happiest sort of life. 128 pages, frontispiece engraving by John Romney, unattributed engraving of author on title page. Slant, rubbing/scratching to boards, bumped/worn corners, spine missing, previous owner's name, foxing, dampstaining, rear end paper excised. Despite the flaws the signatures remain fairly tight and could withstand a reading of moderate care, but the entire thing could stand the gentle attentions of a binder.; . , , , .
