Nursery-Rhyme Land Folks in Protest
: Carlisle (UK)Carlisle (UK): The National Equine (and smaller animals) Defence League, 1952, . . , , Stiff Card Wraps. Near Fine. First Edition. Octavo--from 7?" to 9?" tall. "Be it Known --THAT-- Nursery Rhyme Land is *not* the cruel place some of the Nursery Rhymes would have us believe. Many of the Characters in the Rhymes are sad & angry that they have been made to appear so cruel, & have called a Protest Meeting to make their Views known." And so they do, with brief revisionist presentations from the likes of Little Jack Horner, who "used a spoon like any other good mannered boy," to Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son, who denied "he had ever stolen a little piggy." The central thrust is, as might be expected from the group responsible for publication, one of kindness and gentleness toward all living creatures, whether they be Little Miss Muffet's spider, or the cow that (reputedly, but herein emphatically denied) jumped over the moon. 11 pages. Back cover contains a poem by James Graham, bordered by a Mary Gold illustration. Gently bumped corners. A very nice copy.; . , , , .
