Philip Stanhope, Fourth Earl of Chesterfield
Lord Chesterfield: Letters written to his natural son On Manners & Morals

Peter Pauper Press, Mount Vernon, NY, 1936 With engravings after Thomas Bewick, pub Peter Pauper Press, Mount Vernon, NY, 1936. Dark blue leather with gilt stamped decoration, 9 1/2 x 6 1/4, 113pp, in G- condition, spine leather missing, cover very rubbed and worn, contents clean and on nice paper. The fourth Earl of Chesterfield wrote tirelessly and devotedly to his son, Philip, about his manners, habits and conduct, starting in 1739. Tod ay's youth would do well to read the letters, but probably won't. Alas, Philip pre-deceased his father, in 1768.
