Before you can sell on PopShops, you need to Register on Popula and then sign up for PopShops.

If this is your first time, you might want to read a little about internet salesmanship in our Seller Guide.

To enter your PopShops item, simply fill in the blanks on the List Something For Sale Form. If you need help or a fuller explanation of the form, please read on. Alternatively, of course, write to the ever cheerful chaps of staff@popula.com, who are even now sitting expectantly in front of their monitors waiting to give you help and spiritual sustenance.

Location:
This field is designed to help potential customers figure out shipping costs. Just enter your location or ZIP code.

Inventory Number:
This is an optional field. If you track your merchandise by inventory number, enter the number here.

Headline or Title:
This is the title which will appear on the Item Listings page. If you're offering a book, you should probably put the book's title in here. Otherwise, remember it is the headline users will see when they are browsing, so you should make it as striking and descriptive as you can. You can use a maximum of 255 characters for the headline, including spaces and punctuation. Please don't use any HTML in this field.

Author/Designer/Manufacturer:
If you're listing a book, put the author's name here. This will ensure that your listing shows up if anyone searches under that author's name from our Search page. Likewise, if you're listing a designer dress, Roseville glass, or a piece of Trifari jewelry, you should put the magic word(s)in this box to make sure you can easily be found.

Summary Display Description:
Whatever you put in this box will appear in small print beneath the title/headline on the summary page when potential buyers are scrolling through the category in which you place this item. Browse any category to see examples. Write whatever you think will help the buyer decide whether or not to click through to the detail page. Note that if you leave this blank, the first 400 characters of your Description (see below) will be used as a default.

Description:
Here you should describe whatever it is you have for sale. You're unlikely to run out of space (unless you're a total HTML freak), so feel free to be as verbose as you like. It's generally a good idea to describe your objet fully and accurately. You can also put in here how you would like to be paid (check, COD, credit card, etc.), shipping terms, your logo, and so on.

URL of Picture:
Enter here the web address of any picture file you may want to show with this item listing. Our system recognizes JPG and GIF files. The address will look something like this: http://yourserver.com/yourname/yourphoto.jpg. See below for some further details on pictures.

Alternatively, if you want to reference a picture which you have previously stored on the Popula Image Manager, find the file name in the drop-down list and click it.

Categories:
Choose a category from the drop-down lists. Please try to choose appropriately. If you make a mistake, you can un-select by clicking on the blank line at the top of the list. If you'd like to see all the categories on one page, click here

Price:
I guess you probably don't need help with this one. Just enter the price at which you would willingly part with your objet.

Review:
Clicking the Review button at the bottom of the page will take you to a fresh page where you can check that everything is as you want it with this listing. Once you've made this final check, you can send the listing up to your PopShop for the admiration and approbation of tout le monde.

Pictures:
You can include a picture of your object. In fact, your Popula account includes 5MB of free photo hosting space with Popula Image Manager! It's unbelievably easy to use. Please click Image Manager for details.

The steps for including photos from your own web pages are:

  1. Take a picture with a digital camera or scanner.
  2. Save it as or convert it and save it as a JPEG or GIF file. Eg filename.jpg
  3. Store it at a site which is internet accessible (ie which can be addressed via a URL). Almost all internet providers give free space to their subscribers. Ask your provider how you can store picture files on your free web space.
  4. Note the URL of the file. This is usually quite a long name like: http//:pages.prodigy.net/jondoe/filename.jpg.
  5. Insert the picture's URL in the box provided on the list form.
If everything has been done correctly, you will see the name of the picture file when you submit the form. If not, then either the picture has not yet been stored at the URL you gave or something went wrong when you uploaded the picture to that URL.
