When you register, we ask for your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address. We don't want to know how many kids you have or your household income or your age or even your gender. We need this information because you will probably change your email address at some point and forget to tell us about it. And if you're in the middle of an auction, your trading partners will be able to find you.

Except as noted below, we won't sell, rent, barter or in any other way divulge this information to anyone unless we're forced to by law (pretty unlikely, but it could happen).

You should bear in mind:

Other people can see your e-mail address by clicking on your username wherever it may appear on the site.

If another Popula member wants to get your phone number, he can do so by going to the Request Contact Information page. If someone does request your phone number in this way, he'll be sent an e-mail giving the phone number you input when you registered. Likewise, you will receive an e-mail with his number, so you'll know when someone has done this. That said, we won't hand out your contact information to anyone but a verified trading partner.

Why, you ask, do we have such a system? Well, if a Populist changes his/her e-mail address and forgets to update us, then there would otherwise be no way to get in touch with him/her.

If you open a credit card account, then your card details go into our database. The data is protected, though. Popula support staff do not have access to your credit card info in the ordinary course of business. Certainly, it's at least as safe (safer, really) than giving your card to a waiter at a restaurant.

We use optional "cookies" to make our site user-friendly -- for instance, so you don't have to keep logging in during a Popula session. If you click the "remember me" button, the Popula Difference Engine will store your username and password on your own computer in the "cookies.txt" file, and automatically read it from there.

Every so often, we send out e-mails to our members with announcements about Popula or events on Popula. Everyone who registers will eventually get one. The e-mail comes, though, with instructions on how to opt out from these mailings in the future, so if you really hate these you'll only ever get one of them. (Actually, they're usually pretty entertaining).

If you're worried about your privacy when using Popula, then pleasecontact us and we'll try to put your mind at rest.
